The really interesting thing about the name of the story is that the Locnar is the macguffin from the Heavy Metal film – something that the creator very clearly knew because the macguffin at the end of this story looks exactly the same. In fact, this story has the kind of casual survival of the brutal approach that a locnar story from the movie might have. So this is fanfiction of a sort, being made canon in the magazine that inspired it. That’s kind of cool.

Having said that, one of the weird production artifacts that crops up throughout this story is the use of quotes in a word balloon where they are not necessary and/or provoke interesting questions about what is being quoted. On this page, it only happens once, which is very odd. My theory is that someone was cutting and pasting from a script and accidentally grabbed the quotes.
