This story is really interesting. The whole thing is silent, which gives it a degree of ambiguity. From what I can tell, there is a technology that allows people to appear different than than they actually are. But someone blows up a central transmitter and causes the technology to shut down.

Here, we see the reactions of the central couple as they see each other for the first time. And the reaction of the man to the fact that the girl is fat is extremely accurate. She kills him in the next pages over his reaction. The ambiguous ending has her in prison, looking longingly at the image of how she looked before the technology died – the thinner (and, by implication, more attractive) version of herself.

On the one hand, the reactions are realistic. On the other hand, the story seems to be leaning into the idea that fat = unattractive, which simply isn’t true. Narration would have been helpful.
