These two stories share the conceit that HP Lovecraft is an actual person sitting on a throne, dispensing something like wisdom and/or leadership. In the Moebius story, Lovecraft allows a French president on pilgrimage to kill a Ktulu – a dinosaur-like beast. In the Nicollet story, Lovecraft is cast as a sphinx with an almost predictable twist on the answer.
