Both of these stories are Lovecraft adaptations that follow almost exactly the same format – a character that was initiated into some shady occult business conducted by a friend and/or intriguing figure that became a friend. The narration is very much after the fact and contains a breathless account of how the lead occultist was killed and that information was conveyed over the phone to the narrator.
