With layouts like this, Chaykin moves away from the approach of “insert traditional comics panels into a field of text” that he has been doing and goes wild with a more montage-inspired page that overlays a cityscape onto the silhouette of the main character. Chaykin comes back to this kind of layout when he was working on American Flagg, but the early roots of that series can be seen in these Heavy Metal adaptations.
