Barlowe’s Guide to Extraterrestrials was a book that appeared on bookstore shelves well into the mid-90s. It purported to be a catalog of various aliens that appeared in classic science fiction novels dating into the 40s (if not earlier). This excerpt was a fairly effective advertising feature cum advertisement that was just long enough (3 pages) to get the reader interested and make them want to take the leap to pick up the full guide.
