The Brothers Schuiten return, in yet another story about an everyday event – a dinner in a field a few days after a wedding – being interrupted by something scary and unknowable. Here, the bride disappears into a crevasse that opens in the ground and the groom descends into the darkness to rescue her. It doesn’t have the Orpheus/Eurydice ending, but it does hearken back to a thousand other myths about the hero descending into the underworld. The complex web depicted here is just an added bonus.
