The Happy Future feature that follows this splash page consists of three short essays talking about the future – as seen from the beginning of 1982. One goes into a lot of detail about the future of turntables. Another talks about the fact that it would not be difficult to imagine a future where we all have “room sized” video cameras that would allow us to document our every waking moment. Neither should be all that strange – after all, these were the dominant pre-occupations of the time and interrogating the future of these technologies made a lot of sense. Still, the splash page is more interesting than the words it provided a cover for.
