This is one of Bilal’s better known stories and it starts with a pretty basic premise: what if all of the buildings in a small French farming village started floating for no discernable reason? The individual personalities among the villagers start coming out over the course of the story and it really turns into a character study as much as anything – which is really what science fiction is all about.

The discovery of the floating buildings is handled with more than a little bit of slapstick comedy, as evidenced by the last panel on this page.

It’s obvious that this story was created before the Immortal’s Fete because the linework still has a post-Moebius style to it and isn’t as polished as the later story.
