This ad is really interesting for a number of reasons.

First, it’s an ad for a foto novella, which is speaks to the Mexican/Central American comics tradition (Maldonado is Puerto Rican).

Second, it speaks to the tradition of creating photocomics, which is clearly a history that’s waiting to be researched in depth.

Third, the ad mentions that Maldonado is “one of Heavy Metal’s premier fumetti artists,” despite the fact that he only had one story published to this point in February of 1982.
