One of the elements of the traditional Cinderella story that is usually purged from modern re-tellings is the part where the sister(s) cut off part of a foot so that it will fit into the glass slipper. On the whole, this adaptation is very minimalist, but it’s interesting that Kobayashi chose to include the foot cutting as one of the story beats.
