This story is about a man who escaped from an unspecified disaster and grew into the ground like a tree, then spent the majority of the story living as a tree, experiencing the changing of the seasons and the variety of astrological phenomena that any given tree might see over time. This story feels like the remnants of a recreational hallucinogenic experience that Caza had at one point – imagining himself to be a tree, rooted to the ground. I mean, most of Caza’s stories have an element of hallucination and recreational drugs, but this is especially redolent of something stronger than usual.
