Let’s parse the situation. Published in 1985, the story is set in 2002. One of the Twin Towers has fallen and the other is being used as the headquarters of the bad guys. The only way our heroes can win is to destroy the headquarters of the bad guys, right? So they set a massive amount of explosives in the sewers, collapsing the second tower.

You can still buy a copy of this collected graphic novel in stores, by the way. I saw it in my local comic shop a few months ago.
