This story is very frustrating. Again, Heavy Metal is leaning very heavily on the whole “complete in this issue” thing, but the whole point of this story is that it explains (via flashback) who the characters we have met in previous installments are and how they all know each other. So this is largely useless if you haven’t read the previous installments.

Anyway, Daniel Torres is pretty much one of the clear line masters and my favorite part of this page is the center tier, with the thumbnail sketch of the solar system, explaining how all these planets fit together. The story itself is a (very) thinly veiled retelling of the post-WW2 cold war environment, including the fact that it’s set in 1953. The chronology doesn’t exactly line up, but the art is amazing.
