With this story, I can only conclude that Heavy Metal has completely dropped all pretense of only running “one and done” stories. I say that because this is the direct sequel to a story that was run two issues previous. And not just that, but there is no backstory information presented that would give a new reader any indication as to what was going on – it just goes right into the story.

The story, for those of you who are still reading this, is that an African-American janitor was caught in a reactor meltdown and disfigured beyond belief. Somehow he made it to a doctor that specialized in brain transplants. A militant white girl tried to kill the doctor and ended up dead herself. So the janitor asked the doctor to transplant his brain into her body. And the rest of the story is about the man in the woman’s body coming to terms with what that means.

This page is especially fun because he meets “his” militant lesbian friend and remembers that, oh yeah, women have periods. It’s not exactly progressive, but Fingerman did at least think through some of the implications, which is more that can be said for the janitor.
