One of the really interesting things about this story is the variety of visual cues found throughout the story. The evil duke, especially, has some very cool stuff hanging out in his palace. The weird sculptures in the second panel are a very good example. There’s no good reason for their inclusion beyond visual interest. But they are very interesting visuals, so they work.
