One of the things that really frustrates me about this era of Heavy Metal is how much it proves the reputation that if you can get a topless woman into the story, they’ll print it. This story, in particular, seems to fit into that category.
It’s a great story – two admen talking about the merchandising for the movie they’re working on, only to admit that the don’t actually know what the movie is about. And one of the visual jokes is that there’s a spin-off sex doll. But the art’s unremarkable enough (kind of an early Prado, maybe?) to not stand out except for that panel on that page precisely because of the presence of breasts. That makes it feel like the only reason the story was printed is because of the breasts on the doll.
