True story: I got to this scene, three pages into this story, and started to research whether Heavy Metal had printed this story out of order. There were so many things referenced (including, but not limited to, the dual bald men in the first panel) that weren’t in the previous story that it was almost ridiculous.

Turns out that yes, this is the next story in the series. And apparently a number of things occurred between the stories. The new status quo just wasn’t communicated well.
