It’s always weird to me how so many post-apocalyptic war stories keep defaulting back to the horror of the trench warfare of World War I. There’s no good reason to believe that anything like that would ever happen, but that’s our touchstone for the horrors of war and it’s a shame to let a good metaphor go, no matter how over used it may be.
