If you look carefully at where the art is cropped, you can see how much work had to be done to make sure that there was no overt sexual violence or bondage, even though her hands are very clearly tied together and the hermaphrodite in the middle tier is whipping the man (you can see the arc of the hit, but not the whip itself). It’s very much an exercise in literally filling in the blanks.
