The presentation is a little strip about a character named Ludwig the elf, who goes to sleep on a shoreline. While he is asleep, these aliens show up and try to read a sign. On this page, their official translator – well, you can see for yourself. The punchline running through the four page story is that Ludwig – introduced as the protagonist, remember – sleeps through the whole thing. (You can see him sleeping at the bottom of the last two panels.)

There is a strong element of Walt Kelly’s Pogo in this – or maybe it was the tribute to Pogo that Alan Moore did in that issue of Swamp Thing. Either way, the alien is rendered commonplace for comedic purposes. Thus it was ever.
