To be honest, I’m surprised it took this long for home-grown American underground comix to show up in these pages, even if it’s something that you have to order from a catalog. There is a kind of sympathetic mindset that linked the creation of both Zap Comix and Metal Hurlant – the latter had the benefit of a broad market that could commercially support a rebellious countercultural experiment. The French experiment’s success was was later echoed (in a way) by Image Comics – the artists solid the concept.

Mind you, in the late 80s, Moebius bears a striking resemblance to R Crumb. Style-wise, I mean.
