This is a fun little interview with Michael Kaluta, who is best known for being the regular artist on The Shadow. There is some discussion of collecting the series that Kaluta has been working on for some time – Starstruck. The collection was finally published in 2010. It’s interesting that the interviewer didn’t bring up the fact that Heavy Metal published portions of Starstruck, back in the day. It’s likely that the interviewer just didn’t know.

What I find especially interesting is the timing of this interview. A few issues ago, Dossier featured an interview with Jeffrey Catherine Jones, one of the artists who shared a studio with Michael Kaluta during the mid-70s. These four artists called themselves The Studio and co-published what is effectively a catalog of their work to that date. They were also heavily advertised in Heavy Metal and most of them also did work for Heavy Metal at one point or another. Is this some kind of thematic reunion? If I see interviews with Barry Windsor-Smith or Bernie Wrightson in the coming issues, I’ll let you know.
