Dead Media Time

You may have already heard the news that Tumblr is changing its community guidelines to not allow adult content.

This decision directly affects this blog. Several of the posts in the queue (including the one that was set to post today) have been flagged as “sensitive.” The next issue I am set to scan (Summer 2002 – Erotic Special #2) has sex in almost every story. Almost every page that I’m going to want to scan and post from that story will be flagged as well.

So I guess that’s it for this blog on this platform. Sorry about that, folks. I don’t make the community guidelines, I just get dumped with everyone else.

I downloaded the archive last night. Now I’m starting to entertain ideas about where to put it. Suggestions are welcome. Practical suggestions even moreso.

There are currently over 90 posts in the queue, so I’m going to let those run out until the blog gets deleted. I have no idea when that will be. One day it’ll be here, the next day it might not. If it goes suddenly, you’ll know why.

Personally, I fully intend to continue reading the entire run of Heavy Metal. Only 16 more years to go! Why stop when I’m this close?

Whether this blog will continue is a different story. I think the real question is “where?” Seriously, if you have some kind of insight into a magical place that allows nudity and lets you schedule posts dozens of days in advance, let me in on the secret.

When and if I figure out where that new home is, I’ll let you know. It’ll probably be on Twitter, though, if this blog dies an ugly death in two weeks. Dead media platforms suck.

It’s a very idiosyncratic publication and digging through it has been occasionally rewarding. Knowing that people are reading has helped me get through some of the rougher stories.

Except for that one guy, you’ve been a great audience. Thank you for letting me curate this for you for this past seven years.
