This is the first anniversary of the magazine, no small achievement for any publication. What’s most interesting (to me) is that the editorial staff is surprised about how popular Moebius was in comparison to the other artists. Druillet receives roughly equal billing, but Moebius is the clear breakout star here.

Granted, these are translated reprints of an earlier period, but this is the point at which Moebius went from being a talented artist to an international superstar. There is an incredible range in the material that Heavy Metal printed and it didn’t hurt that he was producing science fiction comics in the same year that Star Wars had its original theatrical release.
