Comparing Barbarella to the other features, it’s clear that this comic is from an earlier time period, where the number of panels on the page was more important than letting the art breathe. Getting the story told (the ostensible purpose of all those panels) trumped an occasional pause to marvel at the art.

In other words, it was produced pre-Heavy Metal.

I do love the line in the middle of the page about how this isn’t space opera. In a lot of ways, that’s very true.
