Another piece of Heavy Metal merchandise – their first in-house calendar, drawn by Richard Corben.

The back cover of this issue is missing, which is too bad because the table of contents say that Charles Vess illustrated the back cover. One of the staples that holds the magazine together has a tuft of brown paper – the remnant of the brown paper wrapping that adults magazine subscriptions were mailed with. The family story is that my father had a subscription almost from issue 1, but I could only find the subscription paper around the mid-80s.

My mother put together the first batch of archival binders in the early 80s. She also did a later batch in the mid 80s. I wonder if she didn’t bother to take the brown paper wrapping off for the latter batch?  I should probably ask her.
