If I’m not mistaken, “caries” is French for “teeth,” which makes sense; the entire story is about a human trying to find a dentist on an alien planet. This gives Margerin room to play with expectations and provide a lot of disturbing visuals surrounding teeth. The man in the last panel is an excellent example.
