There is something very nicely symmetrical about the fact that the 31st issue of Heavy Metal is the October issue that has been dedicated to stories inspired by HP Lovecraft. The editorial points out that Lovecraft is one of those topics that you either know exhaustively or not at all. It also points out that most of Lovecraft’s stories are about some nameless evil from outside that wants in or about an evil, foul-smelling cave that people have to descend into – both of which can have serious sexual overtones if presented correctly.
