This story starts out with a fairly straightforward SFnal concept – a weird alien blob called the Plitch is absorbing French citizens and the French government (represented here by the President in white) don’t seem to be able to recognize the fact or do anything about it.
The last few pages devolve into a broad political allegory that features various people dressed in national flags on a battlefield against each other, with an inevitable nuclear ending.
I get the impression that there is some kind of French political subtext here that I’m not entirely getting, mostly due to the language/cultural barriers and the fact that the story is over three decades old and is still fixated on a geopolitical situation that doesn’t exist anymore.
