This story starts out as a fairly basic power fantasy – nebbish type from our world is picked up and placed in a fantasy world where his heretofore-untapped martial skills are put to the test. And of course, there’s a twist at the end – a lot of Heavy Metal stories seem to rely on the “with a twist” ending.

At any rate, the twist here is that the hero who has spent several pages fighting his way to the tower in the middle of the maze finds that the people who brought him here only did so in order to transplant the old man’s brain into the younger, stronger man’s body. Twist!
