The sheer number of panels on the first page really underscores the kind of work that Crepax did. It’s easy to get caught up in the quality of the linework, but the real innovation (in my mind) is the fractured layouts. The repeating figures on the second page evoke a sense of repeating mirrors and speaks to his love of visual effects.
