The first appearance of Milo Manara in the pages of Heavy Metal, The Ape seems to be some kind of Buddhist allegory about an ape-like man storming the afterlife. As it is Manara, the art is beautiful, but most of the faces seem awfully western. This presents a slight problem towards the end of the chapter when the Ape seems to have acquired a more ethnically Sino-Japanese cast to his features.
