Crepax is not usually noted for his color work, but the addition of color allows him to use the black and white dry brush panels of the musicians as a counterpoint to the main action. My favorite part of the musician panels (which are my favorite part of this strip) is that the title of the song that they’re playing shows up next to them. It’s not obvious that this is actually a song title, but the repetition of the motif over the course of the story gradually leads the reader to this conclusion.
