Zora is a great example of a Heavy Metal feature that is beautiful to look at but almost painfully difficult to read. The bottom half of the page, for example, presents two separate activities at the same time – the larger image is a wonderfully constructed face that blends into a trippy SFnal setting containing a series of what look like stasis pods and a man in a spacesuit walking away from them.

The tier above that, however, relies heavily on the thought balloons from the large head to provide context for why the man is climbing into his spacesuit (including some refreshing full frontal male nudity in the third panel). Presenting the panels in different art styles is a neat idea, but there is a solid lack of context to provide any kind of real stakes in the story – I flat-out don’t care why anything is happening.
