The joke (!) here is that Ranx walked into an overnight compartment on the train that was full of tough guys and, when the conductor came by to wake them up, we find this blood-soaked scene. This comic is full of over the top ultraviolence that is played mostly for laughs. I imagine that if it were being printed today, it would have a lot less humor in it.
