As far as I can tell, this is the only indication that Heavy Metal is celebrating it’s fortieth anniversary in the entire issue, much less the issues published this year. I guess that it’s easier to display art in a gallery in Santa Monica that it would be to get clearances and publish an anniversary issue, but the whole thing goes against the long-standing tradition of taking credit for anniversaries at every opportunity.
