This isn’t the first appearance of ads featuring Olivia’s artwork, but it’s important to note because these ads ran in Heavy Metal for years and years after the switchover from monthly to quarterly. I think that Olivia became friends with Julie Simmons-Lynch and, at one point, actually drew her portrait.

This kind of bad girl art can be seen as “safe” because it was drawn by a woman – a very weird reversal that Heavy Metal seems to have latched onto over the years, even though it was never overtly stated.
