I am not surprised. That page was in the July 1977 issue of Heavy Metal – very early on in the run. (It’s more likely that an English-language director/crew lifted a design detail from an English-language magazine.)

It’s also worth noting that The Road Warrior was very heavily promoted in the pages of Heavy Metal. One of the prominent tropes in issues from the seventies and early eighties was post-apocalyptic settings, so it was probably reckoned that the demographics would overlap.
