First thing to note – printing text on a page with a half-tone grey on newsprint doesn’t scan or copy well.
Second thing to note – the editorial is signed (which is strange) by Matty Simmons (which is even stranger). Matty Simmons is Julie Simmons-Lynch’s father. He was a bigwig at National Lampoon (Heavy Metal was a National Lampoon publication) in the 70s and 80s, which is how his daughter got the job at Heavy Metal.
On the previous page, the name of the publisher has changed. It’s no longer Leonard Mogel, its now George Agoglia. The ownership of the National Lampoon company didn’t change hands – there was merely a power shift in the organization and now someone else was in charge of the parent company.
