One of the interesting aspects of the world-building in this story is the idea that the lesbian utopia lives on a cliff with a vast chasm below them and a wall of stone that is slowly rolling up. That is, the lesbians are on a stationary interior planet and there is a rotating planet a short distance away.

Here, they decide to send a expedition down into the chasm after being told about the presence of men. Naturally, they want to find some men. My favorite part of this is the design of the vessel they use to descend – it’s shaped like a flower, which is something you would expect from a Art Nouveau aficionado like Schuiten. At one point, we see that the petals actually detach individually, to facilitate breaking when necessary.
