The other major theme in the story is decadence and excess amongst the extremely wealthy. This is obviously a commentary on par with setting something in pre-Revolutionary France, what with the gratuitous sex against the juxtaposition of the people living in filth and squalor. It’s very telling that the prostitutes that are brought in to pleasure the golden people are mutants covered in deformities.
