Here’s something very wacky. The second and third panels don’t look quite right. In print, it’s obvious that they’ve been blown up, with no real explanation as to why. Fortunately, I have a copy of this particular story in French, which I picked up in Brussels a few years ago (long story). The page at the bottom is from the original French album, showing what changed.

Not only did the second and third panels change, but the fifth and seventh ones did as well. It’s obvious that all the changes were made to remove any hint of bondage – including the addition of an upright in the third panel to hide the shackle on her upper arm. The prince playing with her nipple is absolutely fine, but we cannot have people thinking that Heavy Metal endorses bondage in a story about a decadent future where water is scarce and a man pimps his daughter out in the back of his butcher shop to survive.
