More rape of Druuna. I’m not going to unpack all of the implications of the fact that Heavy Metal kept printing these stories – and kept defending their right to print them under the guise of “freedom of expression.”
Instead, I’m going to point out the publication censored this page because it was a little too explicit. The word balloon in the top right corner covers up most of Druuna’s face and upper torso and almost camouflages the fact that she’s tied up (which seemed to be a major no-no).
And in the bottom right corner, you can almost, but not-quite tell that the two panels were originally one panel that has been edited to remove the penis penetrating her. It would be easy to think that this rape had not been drawn sexy enough, but the reality is that Heavy Metal did a lot to edit out erections where ever possible.
