So the white man in the second panel (and you can really tell he’s white, can’t you? the others in the story are clearly swarthy men who have been living in the jungle for years) is an artillery expert, kidnapped and dragged into the jungle to help revolutionaries use this cannon they’ve found. The problem is that the white man a) doesn’t actually know who these rebels are fighting for or against and b) if he’s going to get killed or paid for this gig. But he’s in the jungle and his skills are needed, so that’s where the story goes. It’s a neat little encapsulation of how utterly ruthless mercenaries have to be to survive.
