I honestly cannot believe that they ran this interview. I would not be surprised if Corben insisted that the interview go up verbatim. He starts by talking about how much he didn’t like the movie – which goes against the grain of the entire publication’s reverence for the product. Towards the end of this page, he says that the only reason he’s able to keep to schedule for the serial that concludes in this issue is because the production schedule for the magazine is so sporadic. On the next page, the interviewer asks Corben if he needs help producing a movie and Corben throws shade about the magazine’s ability to produce movies. It’s bitchy as hell and absolutely what I would expect from an 80 year old man who has had an uneasy relationship with the editorial of Heavy Metal for almost forty years. Maybe if the interviewer was familiar with the history of the magazine, he might have known to expect that.
