This is a really interesting experiment in what might have been. According to the facts in the article, there were two companies that were poised to make the leap into flying cars within the next two years. 

Remember, this was in 1999. In two years, the United States got a very clear lesson in what happens when flying vehicles interact with high-rises. It’s not surprising that the industry never really took off, so to speak.
