This blog is a chronological re-reading of the entire run of Heavy Metal (pictured above, on the top shelf). It started on Tumblr in October of 2011 and migrated to WordPress in December of 2018. The format of the blog is that a handful of pages from each issue will be published with commentary, one per day. The format will not change – suggestions that I do something different will be ignored.

This blog is largely focused on artistic and cultural commentary surrounding the phenomenon that is Heavy Metal. Mostly, you can expect me to call out problematic nonsense like sexual assault, inappropriate sexuality, and choices that led to poor comics. Or anything else that suits my fancy. You can feel free to consider this a trigger warning if you’re allergic to criticisms of toxic masculine behavior.

The last pages of 2001 are being posted now. At the current rate of progress, I will finish reading the whole run in about 4 or 5 years. If I’ve set things up right, normal posting resumes tomorrow.
