The Publisher’s Note here is one of the few times that the publication has dedicated column inches to current events. Given that the staff has been in New York since the beginning, it is inevitable that there would be some kind of heartfelt outrage.

On a weird meta-note, I’m writing this on the 17th anniversary of 9/11 within walking distance of the Pentagon, and the echo of the primal feeling of being gut-punched still resonates. The sense of urgency has faded considerably, but it’s still there if you know where to look.
