So this entire strip starts with the premise that the main characters are down and out, and have decided to use prostitution as a way of making ends meet. No shame, honestly. But the humor comes with the fact that they’ve decided to be picky about who they have sex with. Again, there’s no shame in that. The punchline of the story is a poorly handled joke about the inversion of what constitutes conventional standards of beauty.
